CARE & SUPPORT

Not every scan story is a light one

This site is a bit of fun, and for most people that's all it needs to be. But we know pregnancy, and getting to pregnancy, isn't always straightforward, so we've put this page here for anyone who needs it.

Why this page exists

A bit about us

We built Nub Gender Reveal because guessing games like this are genuinely fun, and we don't take that away from anyone who just wants a lighthearted number on pink or blue. But we've also been on the other side of a scan ourselves: we went through three miscarriages on the way to having our second child. We know what it's like for a "bit of fun" pregnancy website to land very differently depending on where you are in your own journey.

If that's you right now, we're sorry you're going through it, and we didn't want this site to pretend that side of things doesn't exist. Below are a few of the questions people in that position often ask us, with pointers to organisations who are genuinely set up to help, better than we ever could.

Common questions

A few honest answers, and where to go next

These are short, plain-English pointers, not medical or counselling advice. Where we mention an organisation, we're pointing you to people with real expertise, not speaking on their behalf or ours.

"Was it something I did?"

Almost always, no. Most miscarriages happen because of a one-off chromosomal issue in that particular pregnancy, not anything a parent did or didn't do. Miscarriage UK (formerly the Miscarriage Association) has clear, evidence-based information on causes, and a support line on 0303 003 6464.

"How do I get through pregnancy after a loss without constant fear?"

That anxiety is extremely common, and there's no need to carry it alone. Tommy's runs a specialist midwife helpline for exactly this, including pregnancy after loss, on 0800 0147 800 (Mon–Fri, 9–5).

"We've been trying for a long time and it's taking its toll on us. Where do we even start?"

Fertility Action is a UK charity offering practical and emotional support for anyone affected by infertility or sub-fertility, including secondary infertility. (Some readers may know the previous fertility charity, Fertility Network UK, which closed in 2026; Fertility Action has picked up much of that support.)

"I need to talk to someone who really understands, not just well-meaning friends and family."

Petals provides free, specialist counselling for parents affected by pregnancy or baby loss, delivered by counsellors trained specifically in this area.

"I'm not really coping right now, and I don't know who to call."

Please don't sit with that alone. Samaritans are free to call, any time of day or night, on 116 123. You don't need to be in crisis to call, and whatever you're feeling, they'll listen. In an emergency, call 999.

A quick, important note

The organisations linked on this page are independent charities and services. We are not affiliated with any of them, we don't speak on their behalf, and the views, opinions and guidance on their websites are entirely their own, not ours. We've tried to link only to well-established, reputable UK services, but we can't guarantee the accuracy or availability of external websites or helplines, and a mention here isn't a blanket endorsement of everything an organisation says elsewhere.

Nothing on this page is medical, legal or therapeutic advice. If you have symptoms that worry you, or need medical guidance, please contact your GP, midwife, or NHS 111. If you or someone you know may be in immediate danger, call 999.
